- Immediately upon waking up, drink at least two cups of water to re-hydrate your body as soon as possible. This will also help you digest whatever you eat before working out.
- Consume a full breakfast and half full breakfast consisting of food from all four groups if you schedule your work-out three and two hours, respectively, after waking up.
- If your work-out is just an hour after getting up from bed, eat two slices of whole grain bread with peanut butter. The spread will provide you with healthy fats to slow down digestion of bread and protein as amino acids. The bread on the other hand will act as your body fuel because it is mainly carbohydrates.
- If you only have thirty minutes before your work out, consider preparing a blended shake to drink as breakfast. It can be composed of uncooked oats, mixed berries, peanut butter and some non-fat milk.
- Working out after less than 30 minutes from waking up is generally not recommended because the body will not have enough time to recover from dehydration or food taken.
